January 2014, Jardín de la Esperanza – Mérida, Venezuela
Happy new year to everyone!
In the first week after the holidays, we evaluated the past three months and programmed the next three. On 31st January, El Jardín was invited by the Fundación Don Bosco to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Asunción, the psychologist, prepares the evaluation of the new families: the new comer was the one that cooperated the most with our centre.
Two volunteers from SVE who are working at the “Fe y Alegria” school helped Asunción with her project of sexual education lessons.
During the “Paradura of Baby Jesus”, an Andean holiday that takes place before the nativity scene is disassembled, our music talents (Maria and José David) shone.
José can’t spell perfectly, but has a natura talent for music and singing. Here you can see him doing the homework the speech therapist assigned to him.
To tackle his speech problems, José has been seen by a neurologist, who said that he doesn’t have any neurological conditions and will get better with a lot of practice.
Anderson has received treatment for two years now, owing to seizures, so he’s examined on a regular basis.
The specialists at the Jardín met with their counterparts at CODEF (an institution treating children with functional conditions) in order to go through Anderson’s situation. He still doesn’t get better, in spite of the efforts of the psychopedagogist, the teacher and all the staff at the Jardín.
As for the health of our children, both the children and the staff at the Jardín are attending first-aid classes.
They’re also attending civil defence classes, focused on the actions to take in case of emergency..
