April 2013 report, Jardín de la Esperanza – Mérida, Venezuela

This is Andrea, a new volunteer. He came to work for 3 months with CISV and the Jardin de la Esperanza. Paolo, one of the civil service volunteers from Italy, “reccomended” him to us after they recently studied together in Bocconi University in Milan.

We continue working with the girls on the topic of human values during the «Buenos días», the time before the activities which is dedicated to our considerations.

The association "Geografia Viva" invited the members of the Jardin to participate at the final meeting on prevention of school violence, introducing the childrens' proposals to improve cohabitation at home and in the Centre.

The girls had prepared a poster and then everyone proposed their idea at the microphone.

A moment of recess shared by children from 5 different institutes.

The dietologist, during the last check-up, focused on the importance of physical activity to prevent the girls from becoming “gorditas” (chubby). We decided to launch a weekly hour of P.E. (physical education). While we look for someone more specialized in sports, the theater professor is now in charge of making them sweat.

Physical exercise and corporal expression

Carol, the teacher, could almost be confused with one of the girls

Jardin de la Esperanza beauty salon: Haircut and… lice treatment… with a hairdresser who offered to help us voluntarily

Our recycling continues... but with more beautiful containers.

In Venezuela after the first 6 years of elementary school, the children go directly to high school. So we brought the children from 5th and 6th grade to visit the Pulido Mendez technical school, in order to get an idea of what to do next year.

It was a nice day because the girls from the Jardin got to know the various labs in the high school (mechanics, electronics, crafts, etc.) and they spent the afternoon with children from another school. It's always good to meet young people from a different school.

The monthly field-trip! The «Piscinazo!!», as the girls like to call it. A day at the swimming pool, but first everybody helps preparing and packing lunch.

As usual on the Jardin field-trips... the bus becomes a traveling dancefloor… …

We take the chance to celebrate the 4 birthdays of the month

Since one of the mothers cooperated so well, we invited her to join us with her youngest son, who is a real sweetie

Here he is with his sister . …

Even if the weather wasn't perfect, the girls were happy to run from one pool to the other.

This was the only moment when we got them out of the swimming pools for a while

Even the older girls like playing with the slide ......

And then back to the water!

The whole group (or quite) got through another month. .
