IN KENYA, A NEW SCHOOL YEAR HAS BEGUN FOR CHILDREN
Following a recent reform, the Kenyan education system now comprises 6 years of primary school, 3 years of middle school, and 3 years of high school. The school year in Kenya typically aligns with the calendar year and is divided into three trimesters. Usually, the first one starts in January or February and concludes in March or April, followed by a short break. The second trimester begins in May or June and ends in August. After the second trimester, students enjoy a longer break, the August holidays, lasting about a month. The third trimester starts in September or October and ends in November or December. At the end of the third trimester, the school year ends, exams take place, and students have the December and January holidays, making it the longest break of the year.
The older students who graduated in December have now enrolled in various colleges, still supported by the Fondazione but no longer residing in our foster homes during the school term; some will return during the holidays.
Currently, in our foster homes, we have 13 new children, including 7 boys aged 5 to 13 and 6 girls aged 3 to 13
Let us introduce them to you: Bahati Mwana Iddi, Baraka Leiyo, Blessings Betina, Gabriel Karua, Ibrahim Saidi, Isabella Sidi, Mwanasiti Dhahabu, Mwinyi Akiba Kombo, Ndaputi Leiyo, Nepasaka Teleki, Scovia Scoffil. Additionally, there are 7 other children from Maasai families whom we support in their villages; they do not stay in the foster homes but attend school near their village with our financial assistance. These children and teenagers have been warmly welcomed into our foster homes, cared for by our "Mamas," and integrated into the group by their older mates. We wish everyone a fruitful school year filled with discovery, friendship, and commitment!
